Jay Chou's ~~ The Rooftop (11/7/2013)

Well, after the heart-moving, beautiful and mind-blowing works of Jay Chou on Secret <不能說的秘密> 6 years ago, here comes another highly anticipated masterpiece ~~ The Rooftop <天台>. Directed and starred by Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou himself, this is BIG news to all his fans all around the world!

Expected to be released on 11th July 2013, this movie is mainly shot on location in Shanghai, Beijing and of course little parts of Taiwan. More muscles, more bulk and certainly more style, Jay Chou has still the best to offer us all. The following are the details of the movie being adapted from:

The film depicts a fantasy retro world resembling the 1970s musical, combining romance, martial arts action, and special effects. Jay Chou gets to act, dance, and fight in the movie. The glam rock style setting, intertwined with the poetic and classical flavor, strongly exemplify Jay’s trademark musical style, Zhongguo Feng. In fact, mixing music, martial arts, and a retro style of sci-fi may signal the start of a new genre in film.

The production staff behind The Rooftop are said to be top notch. In addition to the team from Secret, Jay also recruited the team that was the five-time winner of the Golden Horse Best Cinematography award, master photographer Lee Pin Bing (李屏賓), arts designer, Yoshihito Akatsuka who worked on Kill Bill and The Flowers of War <金陵十三钗>, a special effects team from Korea, and the award winning costume designer, Dora Ng (吳裡璐).

As for the cast, apart from Jay Chou, the only one revealed thus far is Wang Xueqi (王學圻), who will appear in the upcoming Iron Man 3. The rest of the cast, including the leading actress, remains a secret. The marketing poster, released on the same day as the trailer, captures the mood of a completely opposite ambiance It depicts two lovers staring at a starry sky, while the trailer features saturated colors and action packed sequences.

Hence, as to all Jay Chou fans out there, watch out for this movie coming to cinemas near you. This talented, all-rounder star has still a few tricks up his sleeves yet to surprise us all!
